The Apprentices Act, 1961 is a structured training program in which individuals, known as apprentices, learn a trade, craft, or profession through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction or theoretical learning. The primary purpose of an apprenticeship is to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become proficient in a particular occupation.
National Apprentice Programme is launched and funded by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to enhance on-the-job training ecosystem in the country. To increase the role of private players in create skilled manpower in India, multiple provisions are made for hiring apprentices in the company.
